Angola

Angola Avante!

Angola is the world's twenty-third largest country (after Niger). It is comparable in size to Mali and is nearly twice the size of the US state of Texas.

There are over 100 distinct tribes and linguistic dialects in Angola. The three dominant ethnic groups are the Ovimbundu, Mbundu (Kimbundu) and the Bakongo. There are also small numbers of Mestico (mixed African and European descent) as well as various minority ethnic groups.

Angola was ruled by Portugal and both countries share cultural aspects: language and main religion (Roman Catholic Christianity). But since most Angolans are blacks, the Angolan culture is mostly native Bantu which was mixed with Portuguese culture. Thus, Angolan culture influences the Portuguese one.

Angola Flag

Angola's economy has undergone a period of transformation in recent years, moving from the disarray caused by a quarter century of war to being the fastest growing economy in Africa and one of the fastest in the world.
