About me

Patrícia Kalil is a Brazilian journalist and e-learning professional, with over 5 years of experience with Education in Brazil and Africa. She strongly believes in the role of distance learning for reaching people that do not have access to formal education and lack infrastructure.

Her passion for education started in Brazil, when she worked for the Institute Paulo Montenegro (IPM), a non-profit organisation engaged in transforming education in South America. In the United States, Patrícia has her own company, pakalil.com, focusing on Web design, curriculum development and translation/localization for distance education programmes. Her clients have included I-TECH (International Training and Education Centre on HIV/ University of Washington), Health[e]Foundation, Fogarty Foundation, Free & Clear, Channel Foundation, the Brazilian National Cancer Institute and VSO London.

She has been working for Health[e]Foundation since 2006, when she translated the entire e-learning programme into Portuguese. In March of 2007, she attended the 3 days workshop in Beira, Mozambique, and helped to compile and analyse the results of both the workshop and the focus groups. In the months of September and October of 2007, she worked on site at the Health[e]Foundation office, in Amsterdam, to implement all the Portuguese content in the e-learning platform Eedo, implementing also the Portuguese Portal, and to participate in the project launch in Mozambique.

Her ultimate professional goal is to develop distance learning courses for those living in rural areas or who do not have access to schools. Currently, Patrícia is enrolled in the E-learning Development and Design program at the University of Washington and is preparing herself to start her Masters in Education and Technology.
